French Embassy - Pariser Platz Berlin
The Pariser Platz is placed in front of the Brandeburg tower and owes its name to the capital of France. It celebrates the Paris capture from the armies against Napoleon.
For more than a century France has owned all lands located in Pariser Platz.
French embassy has been placed in this square since 1860. It has always been the cultural life centre of Berlin, both in art and intellectual sphere by creating an acceptance and open-minded atmosphere. This place has therefore become an important destination for artists, writers and politicians.
After its destruction during the second world-war, it has been completely rebuilt in September 2002.
The first stone of the new building was put down on 10th July 1998 by Christian de Portzamparc, the architect chief of the team which started the reconstruction works. by Jorne Thiede with Viero
The new project is perfectly inserted in the square.
The extra-modern embassy building contributes to the Parizer Platz renovation respecting at the same time the history and the main features of the surrounded reality. Its architectonical quality confers it an extremely current picture and turns it into an icon in all France and Germany.
The entire building's surface measures about 20.000 m2 and puts together all administrative and representative functions. It is able to ensure a high security and privacy level; features which
are necessary for its main functions.
The embassy is well-characterized by two gardens situated in different levels. The first one is available to reception and residence areas whereas the second one is available to public.
The new embassy gives to France an important place in the heart of Berlin. The building establishes a point of contact between traditions and new directions.
Jorn Thiede and Viero for the French Embassy
One of the tools to carry out the vision of Portzamparc was Viero Products. In fact the exteriors of the French embassy have been realized in 2002 using a Marmorino finish on a mineral coat. In particular, the products used for the French Embassy are Marmorin Extra and Ikos. The application was made by Jorn Thiede, a professional applicator member of Farbrat.
His research of best quality Marmorino has taken Jorn to Viero products establishing an important a profitable collaboration.
The work of Jorn Thiede made at the French Embassy assures the involvement of all five senses: the external walls are smooth and glazed but also brilliant, elegant and bright thanks to the streak features of the texture.
Viero develops and updates the ancient tradition of the Italian Marmorino architecture with a high range of products designed for the achievement of marble and travertine effect finishes.
Marmorino is one of the most required products of all Germany.
This product is applied also with new and original techniques, always respecting tradition, in order to create unique final effects.
